A project in which pupils from Rawmarsh Community School designed and and developed a virtual gallery of artworks based on social science research.

Virtual Social Science was a creative partnership between lead artist Paul Evans, Rawmarsh Community School, The University of Sheffield Faculty of Social Sciences and Human graphic design studio. Over the course of six months pupils from Year 8 researched, designed and developed a series of artworks based on the work of seven social science researchers. These artworks then featured in a specially created virtual gallery, along with unique street art interventions by the young people.

Virtual Social Science led on to two more creative public engagement projects with Rawmarsh Community School, lead artist Paul Evans and leading academics from The University of Sheffield: Virtual Life Science (2015) and Virtual Robotics (2016).

Virtual Social Science is a different kind of project – one that is looking at research in the University from young people’s perspective. They will be interviewing academics to develop their visions of the research they do. Once this is done, an exciting on-line virtual exhibition of their work will be showcased, with the help of artist Paul Evans who will work with the young people to realise their ideas. This is widening participation, but in an innovative and engaging format, one that places young people at the heart of the process.
