About Social works? Open

Social Works? Open is an artist-led journal for and about social practice art in the UK and beyond. It was founded by Axis in 2018 as part of the 'Models of Validation' project with Manchester Metropolitan University and Innovate UK.


In 2021 we are offering *not one but two* Social Works? Open publications, each showcasing a distinct selection of writings and contributions from artists working in and with ‘the social’.

The print journal features work from Amelia Hawk, Alix Rothnie, Anahi Saravia Herrera, Anneka French, Gavin Rogers, Georgina Tyson, Kenn Taylor, Madinah Farhannah Thompson, Lucy Lound, Sarah Jury, Sophie Huckfield, Dana Olarescu, Hannah Gaunt, Lucy Wright and R.M. Sánchez-Camus.

The digital journal features work from Ailie Rutherford, Ashokkumar Mistry, Christie Chan, Dan Russell + Lady Kitt, Denise Laura Baker, Dot Jia, Harvey Dimond, Kerry Harker, Kwinnie Lê, Laura Plant, Lena Chen, Lexa Walsh, Martin Lucas + Susannah Silver, Morvern Odling, Paul Drury-Bradey, Rachael Disbury + Sophie Lindsey and Sophie Ruigrok.
