Seeking ways of visual communication with a focus on political and social drawing.

As a political cartoonist who has been publishing continuously for the last ten years, viewers played an important role in shaping my work. Their interactivity has been essential for the continuity of my visual process. Therefore, I founded a project called “Akml”: An Arabic verb and it means to continue or proceed with. Akml seeks ways of visual communication with people through political and social drawings. The project helped me to raise questions about the participatory and presentation side of editorial cartoons, investigating new ways of production and public engagement. In a way to experiment with that, I have used my cartoons as open-access materials in classrooms, residencies, workshops and social media. The project was created with the flexibility to practice social art with a diverse range of audiences on different kind of platforms.
