An exploration of a young aspiring artist questioning their intentions for wanting to build a socially engaged practice. This questioning is interrupted with art history, theory and opinion. The work is unpublished and was written for an undergraduate submission in Fine Art and Writing at UWE Bristol.

I wanted to share this writing in the hopes that other artists who feel drawn to socially engaged work can relate to my thought process. In a cohort of 270 students on my course, I am yet to find another who is interested in similar work to my own. My work often is dissmissed for having no comercial value. I am yet to find a way of documenting my practice that communicates the process as well as art writing does.
