A decommissioned red telephone box on Summer Street in Stroud (UK) became a temporary art gallery, viewable from the outside - making a Covid-safe art show in spring 2020.

I asked my neighbours on Summer Street to respond to the question, ‘What Do You Dream Of?’. Participants created work for display in the small glass panels of the phone box, measuring between 37.5 x 17 cm and 6 x 17 cm."

An opening ‘Public View’ event took place on 31 May at 3pm, with viewings spaced at safe distances. Visitors took turns walking around the box and enjoying the art and reading out poetry from the works to the other visitors who stood in the road and along the path by the phone box.

I would like to explore further the possibilities, both material and symbolic, of phone boxes and other public space relics of outdated technology. This was a small but impactful project.

The project was supported by Create Gloucestershire and Strike A Light with Cheltenham Festivals
