A photography project with an over-60s craft collective in Ancoats, Manchester - exploring ideas of community, ageing & regeneration.

Present and Continuous is the result of a 18-month collaborative project between myself and the Many Hands Craft Collective, an over-60s group based within Ancoats, Manchester. The project also formed part of my Masters by Research degree, exploring the role of photography as a socially engaged art.

Collectively with the group, we looked to analyse how this medium, arguably one of the most accessible forms of communication today, can be used as a way to co-author work between photographer and community. The project resulted in an exhibition at Manchester Craft and Design Centre and a publication, created in collaboration with designer Tommy Morrison.

I continue to work on collaborative projects with the group today, currently via remote postage & online engagement whilst we can't meet in person & I continue to learn so much from them

We have learnt so much from the project - I look at everything in a different way with the camera now! Now I feel like a photographer and we did it as a group effort.
