A film which brings to life the ground-breaking exhibition ‘Footprint Modulation’ of art and interventions exploring Climate Change, Global Justice and Migration.

This project critically connected artists and cultural venues with researchers, activists, communities and documentary media to interrogate, expose, humanise and discuss these compelling and increasingly urgent set of issues. More about FOOTPRINT MODULATION: An exhibition of art and interventions exploring climate change, global justice and human displacement first exhibited 5th June – 5th July 2015 across five venues in Durham, UK A project which connects artists and cultural venues with researchers, activists, communities and documentary media to interrogate, expose, humanise and discuss a critical, compelling and increasingly urgent issue. Migration is among the biggest consequences of climate change as people are forced to leave their homes and livelihoods to survive, increasingly recognised as 'climate refugees'. Footprint Modulation presents work by artists originally from parts of the world which are experiencing the worst effects of climate change and yet have contributed little to the greenhouse gases that cause it. Artists explore ways of using digital tools as an intersection between their creative approach and documentary footage from the human experience of the issues. Local activists and communities debate with artists and researchers to move forward from current practice, theory and mindsets. Critically, a parallel international conference ‘Human Migration and the Environment’ was integrated with the exhibition and events. The project is an exceptional example of public engagement in a consciously de-institutionalised form and therefore downplayed in descriptive narratives and general communication.
